Reflecting the identity of the Docklands

We believe that there is an identity to be found when approaching the waterfront of Dublin. Traditional robust materials were previously used in the Docklands.

These have an inherent tactile quality that responds to human scale, creating a distinctive sense of place. In the past, buildings had a clear character that told you where you were (near the docklands), an environment dedicated to functionality. 

Materials were heavy and durable, like natural wood, bricks, and darkly painted iron. Buildings were different in scale form and materiality. There was a strong sense of place and identity.

Reinforcing the different scale and variety

The overall urban form was created to enhance variation and scale by means of differentiated building massing and roof forms.

Furthermore, this strategic placement of volumes with varying proportions and scale allows for views of the river Liffey to be opened up and for sunlight to flood the residential blocks with daylight. The result is a new development that reconnects the area to the dockland's history and river Liffey. 

Irish Coastal natural inspired streetscapes

The scene finds its inspiration in the Irish Coastal landscape and the alteration between soft and hard surfaces.

Our usage of surfaces is graduated through the site from a larger and more rugged scale in the residential open space to a finer and smoother treatment of the landscaped areas around the commercial blocks.
