Kimmel Quarter is simply a new chapter to the story of the historical Kimmel Brewery. With an elegant yet light timber language, we develop an identity that builds on top of the current spirit of the site. We believe in a vision, were new as old becomes one.

Our Vision

Our goal for the Kimmel quarter is therefore to create a community around a connected site that offers a variety of synergies for tenants and visitors.
We organize the buildings to the long sides of the plot to create an open central continuous covered passage from StaBu Iela to a central plaza towards the existing Brewery buildings.

This covered space connects the different heights of the site into one space on two floors. It connects the existing vaults directly into our commercial ground floor and from the new event space above the vaults to more commercial functions and the office lobbies towards StaBu Iela.

A focus on sustainability

The main building structure is designed as in-situ concrete with low CO2 cement and advanced ceiling systems for office usage.

The enclosure of the passage is designed as a CLT structure. The roof is made out of a triple-layered ETFT system allowing it to regulate the temperature in this semi-heated space. We also planned on executing a deeper analysis of the demolition work and how the materials we would no longer need can be reused on-site and also savaged for construction elsewhere. 

Keeping in mind the Landscape

Through scale, materiality, tonality, and tactility, Kimmel Quarter aims to enrich the character of the local neighborhood.

Our approach was to create on site that is visually and functionally connected with different characters and experiences and not a succession of separated spaces or courtyards. 
To integrate into the urban fabric, and in respect to the historical buildings, we propose a simple layout that will align while carefully integrates into the neighborhood, while creating a passage through the site, the very heart of the community.
